Kids and Thumbs

We all have our own view on this subject matter.  I know I did and still do. Though it has changed from the initial idea that I had!  My first born never had a pacy or took to sucking his thumb. My second child who's ultrasound pictures show her very close to sucking her thumb, almost as if she had been caught and was taking it out of her mouth. She liked her pacy. Well that was until she was about to turn one and I was NOT going to have a child of mine walking around and talking through her pacy. So being in that frame of mind...I took her pacy away. I was amazed. No whining. Nothing.   That lasted about a night or two. Then she made the discovery of her life - again! It lasted until she was five...and we found ourself saying things like - you're going to be a big girl and big girls don't suck their thumb. Of course her response was "But I like it". Then the third child was coming and she still had her thumb. Although the older she got the less she liked it, unless she was sick or just tired, then she loved it! Well the third child came and loved her pacy!  And I swore NOT to take it.....but I did when she was 2 1/2. She had left it at her Nana's house and she lived in another state. The kind that she liked, we could only get at a certain store and they were closed. There were a few nights of whining, then there was nothing. She would mention it every now and then but she would then move on. Great. Now back to the second child...well every now and then she wakes up with a wet, very wrinkled thumb.
And I'm o.k. with that!
